The South Gate’s Debut
This post comes nearly two weeks after Love Burn, as we’ve needed some time to recover from our journey.
The South Gate made it to Love Burn and back, though it wasn't entirely smooth sailing. Rassera had to exercise his radical self reliance by setting up mostly alone, due to various conflict and delays with everyone else on our team.
Our placement was interesting to say the least, next to Love Burn’s ranger headquarters, which placed us in a much more cramped and awkward place than we anticipated, and a long distance from our camp. We wrestled with technical difficulties throughout, and we saw almost none of the event beyond attending the South Gate.
Burners drawn to the fires of the South Gate to laugh, cry, and share.
We experienced a turning point when we accepted not all problems would be solved in the moment and allowed the Burn to what a Burn is meant to be - a place for experimenting with prototypes of radical self-expression, blemishes and all. Once we reached this point of acceptance, everything changed. People started walking through the South Gate, and laughed, wept, juggled, posed, confessed their burdens, roasted marshmallows, and shared their dreams at the our fire on the other side.
Even if the technology didn't all work as intended, the magic did.
More reflections on the magic to come!
